RCAF - Instrument Check Pilot School

The RCAF Instrument Check Pilot School is located on 17 Wing (Base) in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
The ICP School is a
Flight of the Advanced Performance Center along with the HPMA Flight and the Astra Project.
The Advanced Performance Center reports to
Air Force Standards at the 1 Canadian Air Division HQ in Winnipeg.

The school's primary role is to train Instrument Check Pilots (ICPs) for all the flying elements of the RCAF.

The school has a staff of five instructor pilots (IPs) and one civilian administrative assistant.  To help round off the staff, the list of IPs includes one exchange officer from the United States Air Force.  The school prides itself in maintaining a diverse staff from a wide variety of aircraft and missions thereby providing a wider experience base upon which to build this unique school and it's curriculum.

The school runs five initial courses annually.  Course attendees include RCAF pilots from various background, and on occasion, pilots from foreign Air Forces.  This mix of course members provides an excellent forum for discussion and training -  a course strength.

The course includes both ground school and flight training:

The ground school phase includes approximately 75 hours of classroom instruction including topics such as:

    Instrument Flight Rules
    Test Standards
    Airfield and Approach Lighting
    Approach and Landing Aids
    Controlled Flight Into Terrain
TERPS
Avionics Development
American Procedures
International Procedures
Jeppesen and International Publications

This course is one of few post-graduate type courses available for RCAF pilots and is heavily sought after.  If you are coming on the course in the future - be prepared to be challenged and to enjoy a unique learning experience.
