RCAF Instrument Check
Pilot School - Course Information
If you were
selected to attend either the Initial or Refresher Instrument
Check Pilot school, you should read and adhere to the
Information
Package that was emailed to you.
If you have not
received this email within 1 month of your course start
date, contact the Course Director, Capt Cameron Pow, at CSN/DSN 319-257-2500
Ext 6668, to obtain a copy of your information package
and/or briefing guidance.
Additionally, as outlined in the Welcome Letter, you must
complete a Personal
History Form that MUST be completed and faxed to CSN/DSN
319-257-2551/Comm 204-833-2551 Not Later Than 1 week prior to your course's scheduled
start date.
And to
help you get around 17 Wing, Winnipeg, please
download
a copy of the 17 Wing, Winnipeg, base map here.
Your
course will begin at promptly 0800 Hrs in the
ICP Flight Classroom
located in the Advanced Performance Centre on the top floor of Hanger 16
(West End).
Take the first stairwell on the left after entering or walk in
further east of an elevator is required. Tardiness will not be tolerated. A Threshold Knowledge Test
on instrument flight
procedures will be administered on the first day of the
course.
This test has a minimum passing score of 85%
for pilot course members.
Questions will be similar to the IRT closed
book.
Prior to the course a
American Procedures Pre-Course Package will be sent out to help prepare
you for the challenges and differences of flying in the States.
It will also expose you to using different pubs that should be able
to be found within your squadron. If the references cannot be
found within your squadron this is something that you should look
into making available to the other pilots of your squadron.
Some refer to this
course now as ICP lite, but you will find out that is not the case
the first week. With some minor adjustments in course content
from the 5 week course now much of the knowledge that was spread out
over several weeks is now crammed into one. That being said,
hopefully you will find the course to be very enjoyable and a great
opportunity to discuss current flight topics with the other
experience aviators of the CF.
One "privileged platform" later in the course
is a chance to
discuss pressing instrument questions with the 1 CAD DICP (if you
are adequately prepared). With this in mind, please come prepared
with a list of issues, questions, and/or concerns from your unit
that you'd like to address directly with the DICP. These questions
should be typed and will be collected at the end of the first week,
so come prepared.
Please direct all questions
to the Course Director, Capt Cameron Pow at CSN 257-2500 Ext 6668 /
Comm 204-833-6668.
